Review: Rev Your Engines, Its Time For Daytona Rush!

All you Nascar fans out there, we have something that might tickle your fancy! Daytona Rush, developed by Invictus Games is a fairly recent and welcome addition to the iOS racing arsenal.

What drew our attention to Daytona Rush was the emphasis on gameplay and sheer attention to detail. Given that the iOS marketplace has become super competitive providing players with a plethora of games, they find themselves spoilt for choice. Should I install racing game number one or two? Daytona Rush makes that decision easier through their nicely crafted app icon.

The premium app icon provides a preview to graphics that Daytona Rush has to offer and we are glad that it doesn’t disappoint. Everything from splash screens to car models are beautifully designed making you want to keep on playing. Daytona Rush puts all that mobile hardware to good use having it churn out all that graphic detail.

If that isn’t convincing enough, Daytona Rush is free from in-app purchases which is certainly a rarity these days. Secondly, players aren’t time bound where they have to keep on waiting for fuel or energy which allows for longer gameplay and better gaming experience. You can be sure to keep playing Daytona Rush on that ten hour road trip for as long as you want without the need to wait for energy or the need to have internet access which is also a feature worth mentioning. This feels like a game designed for the early App Store dynamics, when in-app purchases, energy and need for constant internet access were unheard of.

Gameplay wise Daytona Rush doesn’t disappoint either. Claiming to be an endless runner, this stock car racing game lets you grab the reigns of some interesting vehicles spanning through the classic era to modern day race cars. Set in third person view players have to overtake opponents using the three lane race track avoiding any collisions. Collisions cost health and varies with the type of vehicle being driven and the level of upgrades performed. Crossing opponents earn players coins which are useful for unlocking three types of upgrades, speed, health and fuel consumption. Additionally, there are some swerving cars on the racetrack which earn bonus coins if knocked out. Bonus coins can also be earned through near misses.

After each lap players can hit the pit lane to refuel on the fly and be ready to exit when it ends to avoid disqualification. Random power ups can also appear that let you repair the car and regain health points lost from hitting opponents. To keep players engaged the game keeps on increasing in difficulty by throwing more opponents on the oval race track causing some nervousness and fast lane switching. However, it is easy to adapt to the increasing difficulty with car upgrades and playing for long hours can result in monotony. But hey! for a free game, no one should be complaining. Daytona Rush is simple and does the job well!

Daytona Rush offers more than a 100 missions which can surely keep players engaged and offers leader boards via Game Center and the usual social sharing features. We really enjoyed playing Daytona Rush for its nice graphics and sounds effects, if you are in the market looking for a decent racer we would surely recommend you check it out.
